Welcome to the 16/01/2017 edition of the Oceanic Overwatch Power Rankings.
New year new panel
Welcome to the first Power Rankings of 2017. As you may have already seen in the article here, we have formed a new panel. It has been a while since we have done a Power Rankings and this will kick off our usual release schedule of releasing one every fortnight.
This week we see a lot of new entrants, since the last Power Rankings there have been a lot of roster changes and a handful of teams have become inactive or disbanded entirely.
We are no longer covering tournaments in the Power Rankings, that is found in its own article.
Top 10 Rankings and Writeups
Rqt(C), Gunba, kiki, Trill, ieatupp, Hus, Aetar, SeRenity(M)
Although Fusion Girls haven't participated in CyberGamer weeklies recently, it is still abundantly clear that they are the dominant force in the OCE scene. Since moving their attention to engaging in top-tier scrims against formidable Korean opponents, they have come away with some surprising results despite their international latency. However, with Aetar soon departing for India they are to be using Huss during all upcoming events. Will this affect their standings? Probably not, but if any teams want to find a weak link in their play they had better find it soon!
Flake, Saphira, Sp4rky, SpOoNzL, Wuvo, Project, Dr_Nuta(Coach)
Ancient Templar have been improving drastically over the past couple of weeks which has led to three consecutive Cybergamer weekly victories and ultimately helping them to secure second on the power rankings. This has been largely down to the synergy they have all quickly developed and the individual skill that each member brings to the team. With the dedication the team has to improving and becoming the best they, given time have the potential to compete with Fusion Girls and compete internationally.
Refz(C), Mosh, Termo, Solus(Coach), Redact(M)
Tempo Storm emerges from the offseason in a rebuilding phase. With the departure of Yuki, Heykatie, and Dorky, Tempo Storm are hoping new blood can bring them back to prominence. In CyberGamer Weekly they took Ancient Templar to to the very brink in a narrow 1-2 defeat, showing promise in their new recruits. The experience of oldboys Termo, Mosh, and Refz shone through and was enough to hold a 3rd place spot on the power rankings.
Bim, Ahren, KS1, Jordan, Degs, Stolts, Polter(M)
Masterminds are holding strong near the top of the rankings due to their continuous hard work through the off season. Steady improvement from Stolts in addition to degs' impactful performances on a deep hero pool make sure the team can be always threatening. The recent 2nd place in CyberGamer weekly through a surpisingly difficult bracket was a great performance, going through Boon's Goons, Treemen, and Lesser Skilled Players, before going down to Ancient Templar in the finals. Going into Heroes League they'll need to bring something more to the table if they want to be in contention for the finals spots.
Render(C), CantuS, Tak4n, Hikari, ckm, Apathetic, Squeezy(M)
With Jam’s recent acquisition of the Skyfire roster the question gets asked, Can this roster live up to the expectations of the old JAM roster? With the roster’s recent long break from playing they should be reinvigorated and once they are back into the swing of things there should be no reason as to why they should not be on their way back to the top.
Smashbrutha(C), Eevee, Taki, Cinderella, tjk, elim
Lesser Skilled Players makes their return to the power rankings despite it being under a new name. This new iteration of Love Shack has a lot of room for improvement however their attitude and desire to be the best may net them rapid success, much like their original roster. With the acquisition of experienced and intelligent players like Elim and Cinderella this may be their strongest roster to date. You can expect to see this team as a serious competitor moving forward.
Zyliforce(C), Darklight, Grafix, Signed, Wiln8er, Adam, Flayke
Coming out of nowhere, Treemen blasted into the CG weekly with a somewhat decisive victory against Tempo Storm. As surprising as this is, the team has a roster of highly active players whom you can frequently find in the competitive matchmaking queue. As they start to develop some team chemistry and flesh their roles out a little more they could seriously become a threat to the current state of division one.
Arma(C), ZeRoR, hobbes, georff, Shrandy, Noied, CryptiK, Ben(M)
The WM1 roster is comprised from players from the old Memeseum lineup, Wumbology and some (not so) fresh faces. With the old Memeseum roster being a former top 10 team, these guys have the pedigree to recontest their spot as one of the best teams in the region. If this roster keeps working hard they will soon be regularly challenging the top 5 teams.
Arko(C), Satiric, Macyn, Bane, MrSaigoon
The Ebin lineup is a squad that is close to my heart. The boys have started competing in more events recently with them securing two quarter final finishes. With some recent instability to their lineup, they will want to secure that 6th player and get as much practice in as they can before the Heroes League qualifier. I hope the boys stick at it and continue to push the top 10.
Boon(C), Presh, Pandi, poom, Rain, SlidzorJ
Recently formed Boon's Goons makes an appearance on the power rankings within their first week of competition. There is undeniable talent and experience within this team with multiple members coming from the recently disbanded - and well ranked - 2 Minutes 1 Noodle combining with free agents within the scene. Despite losing their first game of CG to Masterminds, this team has clear potential and given the right attitude one could expect this team not only to maintain a position on the power rankings, but climb up them.
Teams to watch
- eLim: Tempo Storm - As Tempo Storm come close to finalising their roster, they'll be as hungry as ever to prove that they're a force to be reckoned with.
- CantuS: JAM Gaming
- Jordan: Treemen
- Rqt: Tempo Storm
- Birdy: Treemen
